First Trip to the Dentist

We've been home this week just recovering from the busy weekend, but today we ventured out for L.J.'s very first dentist appointment. I've talked about it for a couple days now about how he will have to open wide and let the dentist count his teeth, etc. So we got there and he loved the waiting room...two different little playhouses (one with stairs, a slide and a 2nd floor with windows) and there was an activity table. So they called us to come back and the dental assistant got some info from me and then said "Ok well on the first visit we try to get as much done as possible, but we may not get all the x-rays or the cleaning...just depends on how well he does. We'll come get you if we need you." What? So I don't get to go back with him...that's weird, but after thinking about it he would probably do better without me there.

So puppy and I go back to the waiting room for about 15 minutes before they call me on the intercom to come back again. She tells me that they got two xrays but that he wanted to sit with me in the waiting room until it was time to see the dentist. So here he comes all clingy and weepy.

Back to the waiting room and he's all smiles again armed with his new lime green Piglet toothbrush (although he kept calling it Tigger and Pooh...right show...wrong character). He played for about 30 minutes while we waited for them to call us again. We go back again and this time I'm allowed back there. He sits on my lap backwards and we lay his head down in the dentist's lap. Evidently the very child-friendly dentist has done this before and figures this is the easiest way. After a little squirming and one bite to the dentist's hand...L.J. finally opens up his mouth so the doc can see that all his teeth are there. He discussed that it looks like the front two teeth may have been bumped during a fall or something because the nerves look a little damaged, but other than that...no cavities and a good report for mom and dad on the brushing. Yay!

I asked about the thumb-sucking, but he wasn't concerned. He said it's not really that big of a deal until permanent teeth come in. So we left with a balloon, a bouncy ball, a new toothbrush and one happy child. Not too bad of an experience after all.

And here's a few new layouts...
